History of Microbac, 1990s
Second Generation of LIMS Implemented
At the beginning of the decade, Microbac implemented its second generation of LIMS, affording the Company improved means to record and monitor data.
Quality Assurance Committee Formed
In its ongoing efforts to provide the highest Quality testing to its customers, Microbac developed a Quality Assurance Committee in 1991. The QA Committee fosters a unified effort by Microbac to continually improve the Quality component of its business.
Microbac Lands on the West Coast
The 1992 acquisition of a Corona, California laboratory in the greater-Los Angeles area gave Microbac its first presence in the western United States. Upon the purchase, Microbac truly became a “national network of laboratories”.
J. Trevor Boyce Named President in 1993
A decade after he joined Microbac, J. Trevor Boyce was named President of the Company. This monumental appointment signified the second generation of Microbac leadership by the Boyce family as Trevor succeeded his father A. Warne Boyce, who continued in his role as Chairman.

After many years serving in active roles with the American Council of Independent Laboratories (ACIL), A. Warne Boyce was named Chairman of the organization in 1994.
Four Acquisitions to Begin 1997
In the first three weeks of 1997, Microbac acquired four laboratories in Portland, Maine, Sturbridge, Massachusetts, Altoona, Pennsylvania, and Virginia Beach, Virginia. These laboratories were eventually merged into existing Microbac operations.
1998 Acquisitions of Southern Testing, South Carolina and Guardian Laboratory
The purchase of Southern Testing & Research Laboratories, Inc, (STRL) in Wilson, North Carolina marked the largest acquisition in Microbac’s history. The addition of the Southern Testing Division brought pharmaceutical and agrochemical testing into the Company, while enhancing Microbac’s environmental and food testing capabilities. The division is known today as the Wilson Division. The acquisition of an environmental laboratory in the fertile food market of South Carolina allowed Microbac the opportunity to add food testing capabilities to what became known as the South Carolina Division. The Kentucky Division expanded its growth and market base when Microbac purchased Guardian Laboratories.
ACIL Presents A. Warne Boyce With Truesdail Award
The American Council of Independent Laboratories (ACIL) honored Microbac founder A. Warne Boyce with the Roger W. Truesdail Award in 1999. The Truesdail Award recognizes “outstanding service to independent laboratories”.
Recra Laboratory Acquired; Simanic Joins Microbac
In 1999, Microbac purchased Pittsburgh’s Recra Laboratory and merged the laboratory’s operations into the Pittsburgh Division. The addition of Recra also marked the arrival of Joanne Simanic, who has teamed with Dave Danis in Corporate Quality Improvement to elevate the Company’s quality goals and realities.
