  • J. Trevor Boyce

    CEO & Chairman

    Boyce has worked his entire 28-plus year career for Microbac Laboratories, Inc., joining the Company in 1983 as Assistant to the President. He served as Laboratory Director of the former Schiller Division in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before moving to Virginia to start a laboratory, the now defunct Mid-Atlantic Division.

    He later became Executive Vice President, working alongside his father, Microbac founder A. Warne Boyce, and then-Chief Operating Officer Bob Morgan. In 1993, Trevor was named Microbac’s President & CEO, a title he held until becoming CEO & Chairman in 2009.

    An active member of the laboratory community, Boyce was elected Chairman of the American Council of Independent Laboratories (ACIL), beginning his term in October 2010. He has also served as Treasurer for the ACIL, as well as other positions in the organization. Previously the Chairman of A2LA (American Association of Laboratory Accreditation), he has served on the organization’s Board for over a decade. Boyce has also served on the Board of Trustees at Waynesburg University and remains on the Board of a local community in Rhode Island, known as the Weekapaug Fire District.

  • James Nokes

    President

    Mr. Nokes was named President of Microbac Laboratories, Inc. in October 2009. Nokes, who has served as a Microbac Vice President/Regional Director and Managing Director of the Company’s Knoxville (TN) Division, has a well-established record of success in impacting many aspects of Microbac since joining the Company in 1998. He possesses an extensive background in the environmental and food testing industries, as well as in clinical laboratories.

    As Managing Director of the Knoxville Division from 1999-2009, he guided a laboratory which performs chemical and biological testing, and houses the Company’s DNA and molecular testing facility. As Vice President/Regional Director, Nokes provided oversight of the New York Division’s operations and also assisted several other divisions. He continues to be involved in directing the advancement and growth of Information Technology within Microbac.

    Prior to arriving at the Knoxville Division, Nokes earned a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from David Lipscomb University and a M.S. in Microbiology with emphasis in molecular biology from Middle Tennessee State University.

  • Sean P. Hyde

    Chief Operating Officer

    Mr. Hyde was appointed Microbac's Chief Operating Officer in January 2011. Previously serving as Senior Vice President for Operational Affairs since 2009, Hyde possesses over 20 years of experience in the analytical laboratory industry, including serving as Senior Vice President and Vice President over the past decade and Managing Director of the Kentucky Division (KTL) for 17 years. Throughout his career, Hyde has demonstrated the ability to maximize all aspects of laboratory operations and has a penchant for improving operations by identifying and correcting problems. In his previous Executive positions with Microbac, Hyde actively managed numerous acquisitions and mergers. As Managing Director of Microbac’s Louisville-based laboratory, he developed an interest in the laboratory acquisition process and helped guide Microbac’s purchases of two local competitors in the late 1990s.

    Upon joining Microbac in 1989, Hyde worked in KTL’s wet chemistry and microbiology departments for several years before being named the division’s Assistant Laboratory Director and, subsequently, Managing Director.

    Hyde graduated from St. Louis University with a B.A. in Biology / Chemistry in 1985.

  • Robert S. Crookston

    Senior Vice President of Business Development

    Mr. Crookston, who was named Senior Vice President of Business Development in October 2009, has served the analytical laboratory testing industry in numerous management and technical capacities since 1986. Prior to serving as Senior Vice President of Business Development, Crookston served as a Microbac Vice President/Regional Director, providing oversight and helping several Microbac divisions cultivate their growth potential. Crookston demonstrated his expertise in developing growth as the longtime Managing Director of Microbac’s Chicagoland Division. He also serves as Microbac’s ambassador for Customer Care, fostering a culture of high service standards to external and internal customers.

    In addition to his leadership tenure with Microbac’s Merrillville, IN-based laboratory, Crookston worked in the utility and TSD industries prior to guiding the growth of a Cleveland-area environmental laboratory, serving as Laboratory Director for many years. Throughout his career, Crookston, a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager Master Level (CHMM), has managed numerous analytical and field sampling projects in the steelmaking, electric utility, waste disposal, chemical, and automotive industries.

    Crookston earned a B.S. in Biology Cum Laude from the University of Akron.

  • Cherie Gudz

    Senior Vice President / Regional Director

    Ms. Gudz was named a Senior Vice President of Microbac Laboratories, Inc. in January 2012 and acts as Regional Director of East Coast Laboratory Operations. She previously served as a Vice President from 2007-2012. In addition to her responsibilities as Senior Vice President, Gudz serves as Managing Director of Microbac's Central Pennsylvania Division, a position she has held since 2011. She was previously Managing Director/Laboratory Director of Microbac’s Camp Hill Division from 1999-2008 before serving as Managing Director of the Baltimore Division from 2008-2009.

    Gudz arrived at Microbac in 1999 upon Microbac’s acquisition of Gannett Fleming Environmental Laboratories (GFEL) in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. While at GFEL, she served as Sales and Marketing Manager from 1995-1999.

    Gudz graduated from Wilkes University with a B.S. in Biology.

  • David Vandenberg

    Vice President

    Mr. Vandenberg, who was named a Vice President in 2010, possesses over three decades of management and technical experience in the environmental, and health and safety industries. As a Vice President, he assists Microbac divisions in the development and implementation of business and operational strategies.

    In addition to his role as Vice President, Vandenberg serves as Managing Director of the Marietta-based Ohio Valley Division (formerly Kemron Environmental Services, Inc.), which was acquired by Microbac in 2008. As the longtime Managing Director, Vandenberg and his OVD staff have established the laboratory's strong reputation in providing environmental analytical testing services to both the private and federal sectors. During his extensive career, Vandenberg has worked with a variety of different industries, providing design and project management expertise in the areas of analytical support, RI/FS, asbestos, industrial hygiene, site remediation, and regulatory compliance and permitting.

    Vandenberg graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a B.S. in Chemistry/Business in 1979.

    Vandenberg is a member of Microbac's Executive Committee.

  • N. Cabot Earle, Jr.

    Chief Administration Officer

    Mr. Earle was appointed Chief Administrative Officer for Microbac Laboratories, Inc. in 2009. In this role, Earle oversees operations of the Corporate Office in Pittsburgh and the company’s legal, quality, risk management, and financial functions.

    Through the American Council of Independent Laboratories (ACIL), Earle serves as vice-chair of the Government Relations Committee, chairs its subcommittee on Unfair Competition, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Independent Laboratories Institute, a scientific and educational foundation. Earle also serves on the board of directors of two Pittsburgh organizations, Dance Alloy Theater and the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh.

    Earle earned a B.A. from Davidson (NC) College and a J.D. from the Roger Williams University School of Law in Bristol, Rhode Island. He is admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
