The Cortland laboratory offers environmental and food testing services to a wide variety of clientele.

Over the last five decades, Microbac’s Cortland, New York laboratory has established a strong presence in the analytical testing industry, offering a wide variety of environmental and food testing services. An experienced staff of chemists and analysts perform a wide range of analyses and specializes in residential water testing, including bacteria testing, fluoroscein dye, flow rate and other water quality tests. The field services staff is available to provide sampling and pickup services. A ‘Home-Owners' package is offered that includes the most popular water quality tests at a discounted rate. The laboratory also performs a large influx of gas well testing analyses, establishing a baseline of water quality prior to the drilling of a gas well.

The New York Division offers a broad range of inorganic testing, including metals analysis by AA, ICP, and ICP/MS. The laboratory’s wet chemistry department handles the most common procedures, including BOD, residue analysis, cyanide, ammonia/TKN, nitrate & nitrite, sulfate, BTU, flash testing, oil & grease, alkalinity, pH, Langelier, hardness, and TOC, while also offering ion chromatography testing.

The organics department is well equipped with several GC/MS systems for both volatile and semi-volatile analysis, and the laboratory also offers pesticide and PCB analysis by GC-ECD.

The Cortland laboratory provides asbestos testing services along with building inspection and investigation (pre-demolition, AHERA). Asbestos determination is offered for bulk samples along with fiber in air counts. The laboratory maintains a New York State Department of Labor certified staff at the Inspector, Management Planner, & Project Monitor levels. Additionally, the laboratory offers indoor air quality surveys (IAQ), specializing in mold, vapor intrusion, and general ventilation evaluation.

The New York Division expanded its microbiology facilities, tripling in size, and has greatly expanded its testing capabilities of food and dairy products. Microbiology testing offerings include coliform, E. coli, Salmonella, E. coli O157:H7, fecal, yeast & mold, standard plate count, Suitability & Use test, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Clostridium Perfringens, and Listeria. The laboratory utilizes the Colilert system in order to provide 24-hour results for total coliform with E. coli confirmation for residential drinking water.
