DRUG SCREENING
Toxicology is the study of poisons. At Microbac, we perform testing on drugs of abuse in urine, tests of specimen validity, and tests of unknown substances to rule in or rule out drugs of abuse.
Our drug tests are of two types: a screen, performed on urine specimens by immunoassay, and a confirmatory test performed by gas chromatography / mass spectrometry on those specimens which screen non-negative.
Areas of Expertise:
Tests of specimen validity include pH, creatinine, and oxidants. These are performed as part of every screen. They are designed to detect methods used by donors to avoid positive drug tests. Abnormal tests of specimen validity are also subject to further, confirmatory tests.
Microbac handles all specimens and tested aliquots with complete chain of custody (CoC). All handling and testing of specimens is done in Microbac’s specially-designed secure facility, and confirmed positive or abnormal specimens are stored frozen for a minimum of one year, again in a secured freezer.
Microbac holds certification under CLIA and a license from the state of Kentucky as a clinical laboratory. We operate under strict quality control, and participate in an external proficiency testing program.
Currently, we are pursuing SAMHSA certification, and perform all operations in accord with the mandatory Guidelines for Federal Drug Testing Laboratories.
Microbac continues to explore new areas of Toxicology, including tests of heavy metals, solvents, pesticides, or other potential toxicants in human blood or urine.
