Pet Food - Melamine

The FDA has reported that the recent deaths of cats and dogs may be linked to pet foods contaminated with Melamine. Wheat Gluten and rice protein are the suspected sources of contamination. Melamine is an organic compound used to make plastics, fertilizers, fabrics and glues. Melamine at high levels is toxic, and potentially deadly, to cats and dogs. When significant amounts are ingested by dogs and cats, crystals develop in their urinary systems that may lead to renal failure and possibly death.

Microbac can determine Melamine in ingredients and finished products by HPLC, GC/MS and LC/MS/MS. We will work with our customers to select the most appropriate method.
