Equine Herpes Virus 1 (GLP Compliant)
GLP-Compliant Testing to Validate Disinfectant Product Efficacy Against Equine Herpes Virus 1

A 2011 outbreak of Equine Herpes Virus 1 (EHV-1) has resulted in a significant number of horse deaths and infections. As a result, businesses that manufacture farm and veterinary disinfectant/cleaning products have a need to validate product efficacy against Equine Herpes Virus 1. The Microbiotest Division of Microbac Laboratories, Inc. offers efficacy testing for antimicrobial and disinfectant products against a wide range of microbial and viral agents, including EHV-1. As a leader in the testing industry, Microbiotest has offered microbicidal and virucidal efficacy testing for regulatory submissions and marketing purposes since 1986.The outbreak of EHV-1, which was first detected in early May 2011 at a horse competition in Utah, spread throughout multiple Western states and Canada, resulting in 75 horses being infected and a dozen euthanizations. EHV-1, which poses no threat to people, can be airborne and transmitted by touch or by sharing feed, brushes and other equipment. The virus swells the blood vessels in the brain, leading to symptoms somewhat similar to those that accompany bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or mad cow disease
