Microbac Laboratories' Hauser Division provides detailed studies of materials to magnifications of 2000x. Microbac can provide Nomarski interference contrast objectives to evaluate precipitates, microstructural changes, and other features. Bright field lighting provides suitable contrast for assessing microscopic features that are not readily discernible using only bright field lighting.
Microbac also has the capability to determine heat treatment response, inclusion count, secondary phases, and corrosion effects. We analyze diffusion phenomena, welds, weld heat affected zones, and brazed junctions. Microbac also performs cross-sectioning for hardness depth, coating thickness, dimensional verification, etc.
Using metallography and scanning electron microscopy, Microbac can assess corrosion from outdoor exposure, galvanic attack, intergranular effects, high-temperature oxidation, salt spray exposure, and buried, offshore, and soil environments. We also have the ability to assess microbiological corrosion.
Metal fractures are evaluated by scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Microbac can provide an accurate understanding of fracture initiation and propagation.
