Standard Practice to Assess the Activity of Microbicides against Viruses in Suspension

Summary

ASTM E1052-20 is a standard test method for evaluating the efficacy of antiseptics, disinfectants, sanitizers and other formulations to inactivate virus in suspension.  This method provides a standardized approach for evaluating the virucidal properties of those products in vitro.

• Antiseptics (handrub, handwash, etc.)

Outline of Test Procedure

• Add virus into test solution; mix thoroughly
• Hold for contact time (usually seconds to minutes)
• Add neutralizer
• Assay for Infectious Virus (quantitative assay)
