Our research & development team in Oak Ridge, Tennessee has more than 50 years of experience in environmental testing and has developed a method to test for the presence or absence of viral genetic markers on environmental surfaces. While the current clinical testing is for people, environmental testing is for places or things (think door handles, PIN pads, and other high-touch surfaces). The CDC says COVID-19 spreads mainly through close contact from person-to-person, but it may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose or possibly their eyes.
To assess the presence or absence of the virus, this testing kit detects the genetic signature (RNA) of SARS-CoV-2 in swab samples from disinfected environmental surfaces using RT-PCR for specific detection of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). RT-PCR, a molecular diagnostic test, detects and quantifies the viral RNA using real time (RT) reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
This step draws out and purifies the viral RNA by removing extraneous biological and other material that could inhibit further analyses.
The process of converting viral RNA into a complementary DNA (cDNA) molecule that can then be analyzed by PCR.
The method used to amplify or copy the cDNA in order to detect specific viral targets of interest. There needs to be a control or controls for each step of the process in order to provide the highest confidence in the test results.
Each tube contains specialized buffer that will inactivate the virus and preserve the viral RNA for shipment to the lab.
A lidded container provided to hold and protect the samples during shipping.
A secondary container to protect storage box and absorb any liquid in case of spill.
A biohazard bag which holds the samples and storage units.
Microbac documents for recommended, easy sampling and shipping procedures.
The sampler will complete the Microbac Sample Analysis Request Form to trace sample descriptions, locations, and time that match the samples being submitted.
Microbac provided sample return shipping box for all SARS-CoV-2 surface samples, kit containers and bags, and completed Sample Analysis Request Form.
